A Truly Gorgeous Day of Sustainable Celebration!

Thanks to all who participated and attended our Eco-Lodge Grand Opening this past Saturday! It was a glorious day filled with fun connections, delicious food, learning, dancing, and more. Bill McKibben's words, along with Jim & Peg's, were truly inspiring and made us reflect a little more on the importance of green building and including sustainable practices in our everyday lives. Below are some photos from the day and keep your eyes peeled for a longer update on the Grand Opening in our blog and newsletter.

On Friday, we put the finishing touches on the Eco-Lodge by planting the living roof.....

....hanging the hammocks....

...and adding a bouquet of daffodils to the Common Room.

Spectators and guests started flooding in around 1pm. They mingled around the Eco-Lodge....

...had some delicious brick oven pizza, and....

...admired the Eco-Lodge.

After days of rain and record flooding in Vermont, Saturday turned out to be sunny and 60 degrees. We held the dedication ceremony outside on a grassy knoll in front of the Eco-Lodge.

The audience looked out of the beautiful new building, while John Sheridan (our board president), representatives for Sen. Bernie Sanders and Gov. Shumlin, David Blittersdorf, Russell Mendell, Bill McKibben (speaking in the photo above), Peg Kamens, and Jim Mendell all shared a few words with us. We also heard a song from Emma Goldberg and her friend Kip.

And of course there was a ribbon cutting!

The rest of the afternoon was filled with activities. There was a kids' performance put together by the Vermont Recyclers Association (pictured above), educational booths in the Common Room of the Eco-Lodge, bubbles on the hill, a terrarium project, and more pizza and dessert.

And as the sun was setting after a lovely day, we finished off the events with a Jeh Kulu dance party!
